Pivot Project

Building a literary ecosystem where Hispanic and Latinx writers in the United States can develop their work, navigate the publishing process, and ultimately publish their stories.

Mission

To create pathways for emerging Hispanic and Latinx writers in the United States through publishing education, editorial guidance, literary development, and community.

VISION

To build a literary ecosystem where emerging Hispanic and Latinx writers in the United States can develop their work, access professional guidance, and ultimately publish their stories through a community that grows with them.

Why Pivot?

Pivot Project was founded by Roxana Calderón, a Dominican American author, editor, educator, and publishing professional committed to creating pathways into the publishing industry for Hispanic and Latinx writers in the United States.Long before earning a Master of Professional Studies in Publishing from The George Washington University, Roxana recognized the lack of Hispanic and Latinx representation across the publishing industry. Graduate studies became an opportunity to better understand the field and help create greater access for future writers.Over the past five years, Roxana has designed and facilitated writing and publishing workshops for students, educators, and aspiring authors, including literary programming for New York City public high schools through the New York City Department of Education and workshops supported by Poets & Writers. Her work with the Dominican Writers Association, which published her first book, and as Editor-in-Chief of Spanglish Voces reinforced the belief that representation, mentorship, and community are essential to a thriving literary landscape. Pivot Project builds on that foundation, beginning with Publishing Labs and growing toward a broader vision for literary development and publishing.
